Anticipating Alice

The South Brunswick Public Library and the South Brunswick School District are excited to partner once again in 2012 for South Brunswick Reads. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Our hope is to bring the community together in reading and celebrating the book.

This classic tale by Lewis Carrol was first published in 1865 and has never gone out of print. The title was selected for its lasting appeal for all ages as a story with memorable characters, life lessons, nonsensical humor and even a bit of math and logic. The story follows the adventures of young Alice after she falls down a rabbit hole into the fantasy of Wonderland. Her journey includes the 21st century skills of adapting and curiosity as well as the core curriculum values of self-assertion, empathy and self-control. The book abounds with puns and riddles that help to entertain and sharpen the mind.

SBPL and the school district are in the planning stages for numerous programs and events for all ages to encourage South Brunswick's shared adventures in Wonderland. These may include contests, a Mad Hatter's Tea Party, and move nights at the Library, as well as art projects, riddle creations and "un-birthday" celebrations in the schools. There will be an online wiki again this year featuring a character popularity contest, library displays, and much more.
